Redesign navigation
2021 Atlassian
Problem
Users create roadmaps for their teams but struggle to utilise the full screen effectively. They frequently switch between filters, settings, and dropdowns to find what they need, leading to frustration and inefficiency.
Solution
A redesign of the navigation to simplify it’s use and increase space, making it easier to focus, find features, and view more Jira issues.
Impact
• 70% adoption rate among Daily Active Users.
• An extra 7 rows of Jira issues were now visible, groundbreaking for our small screen users.
• A better user experience.
Overview
The Advanced Roadmaps team faced a growing challenge as new features were continuously added, leading to an overcrowded navigation system. Users found the interface overwhelming, making it difficult to locate essential features and effectively manage their roadmaps. To solve this problem, we conducted research to determine the impact on users and secure leadership approval for a redesign.
Role
Design lead on Advanced Roadmaps. I led the end to end project from research to execution.
Process
I adopted the Agile methodology to manage the project, engaging in daily stand-up meetings that fostered continuous collaboration between design and development teams. This iterative approach enabled rapid feedback loops and adaptive planning. I consistently monitored key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure that the project outcomes remained aligned with broader business objectives. To validate functionality and user experience, I conducted extensive testing across different development phases. Additionally, I employed data analytics tools to track performance metrics, measure the effectiveness of implemented features, and make data-informed decisions that enhanced overall impact."
